“Legend has it that Melisso or Melissèo, a Cretan prince arrived in the district he founded and called Melissa. The history of our Cirò and Melissa Wines

The history of our Cirò and Melissa wines has its origins in Ancient Greece, when the colonists arrived on the coast of Ionian Calabria and seeing the extension of the land dedicated to viticulture, they introduced the vines of their land of origin, the Gaglioppo and the Greco Bianco. These vines are fundamental for the production of Cirò and Melissa D.O.C. Cirò is closely linked to the history of ancient Greece as it was the first example of a sponsor or prize offered to the winners of the Olympic Games. This has helped to relaunch the image internationally. In 1969 the Cirò obtained the recognition of the D.O.C. (denomination of controlled origin) which identifies three types of Cirò: White, Red and Rosé.
